Rome

I didn't think that Rome is big because everyone told me you could cover the sights by foot but I was so wrong!

I stayed at the Express by Holiday Inn, Rome East and realised that that is NOT in Rome. I had to take an underground to the city centre everyday. The focal point was Termini Station which is a big station that has supermarket & shops.

My hotel is really new & I had a spacious room so I compromised on the distance. With the employees' rate, I was paying only EU33 per night - a bargain for quality actually!

Rome is well known for its petty crimes like pick-pockets and men who molest women. Maybe it was the terrorism of Sep 11, you see policemen at every street corner thus, the reduction in crimes. In fact, I felt very safe even at night!

The traffic in Rome is also not as horrendous as we've read. Drivers do observe the traffic lights, stopping when red. Pedestrains are the ones who flout traffic rules but if we don't, we may be still standing by the road the next day!

In many ways, Rome reminds me of Paris with its river/banks/bridges and art galleries. It also reminds me a lot of Spain although Spain has more to offer in shopping.
